Responsibilities

As curator of Aquarium, Reptiles and Marine Mammals I manage a wide variety of animals at ZOO Antwerp & ZOO Planckendael, ranging from invertebrates (both aquatic and terrestrial) over amphibians, fishes and reptiles to the marine mammals.

Extra activities

Member of the Aquarium Committee of the European Union of Aquarium Curators
Chairman of the Belgian Scientific Committee of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora)
Member of the Flemish Zoo Commission

Research Interests

My primary focus is on the optimal husbandry and well-being of the animals under my care. Furthermore, I keep an interest in biodiversity and taxonomy mainly of the meiofaunal marine flatworms.

Brief Biography

I obtained a PhD in Zoology at the Hasselt University in Belgium. I conducted research on the meiofauna of the Belgian coast, with a focus on the free-living marine flatworms (Platyhelminthes). I’m an honorary fellow at the Faculty of Sciences of Hasselt University, and member of the research group Zoology: Biodiversity and Toxicology.
